Introduction to Trad Climbing This course is for those who have indoor lead, sport or some outdoor climbing experience. Becoming a competent, slick and safe second is a great way to get involved with the trad climbing world. It is an important skill and will aid you into becoming an excellent lead trad climber. On this two day course you will learn; - how to use a guide book - choosing routes - route reading - crag etiquette - weather and choosing the right crag - what’s on a trad rack and how they are used - good, safe lead belaying techniques - how to recognise good gear placements - gear management whilst following a leader - problem solving scenarios whilst climbing - efficient communication skills - rope management - introduction to knots used in trad climbing - developing risk management skills Equipment: Equipment provided – Harness (feel free to bring your own), helmet (feel free to bring your own), all specialised rock-climbing equipment. Personal Kit (not provided) – Climbing shoes, appropriate clothing (varies depending on the great Scottish weather), backpack (15-35ml), water/drinks and snacks/lunch. These courses are run around Glasgow and the central belt. The venues will vary depending on the weather (and will probably be a different crag on day two) so this is often decided fairly close to the dates. I will give you as much notice as possible (and hope the weather is kind). I reserve the right to postpone or cancel the session for any reason, including weather (this will be done as soon as possible), and minimum group size. Max group size is 3, minimum of 2
